KING SAUD TRAM STATION

Use : TRANSPORTATION
Location : RIYADH ( SAUDI ARABIA )
Year : 2020
Client : DAR Engineering

This proposal for the main tramway station in the King Saud University Campus of Riyad was inspired by the morphology of the ancients rocks located outside the city in the desert of Madain Saleh, one of the most atractive and recognizable natural landmark of the entire Saudi Arabia. The program of the station includes two 30sqm climatized waiting rooms for each lane of the tramway, 50m long and 5m wide platforms. All the installations for clima and electrics are hidden, located between the two layers of the roof cladded with 1,5 cm thick precast concrete panels produced locally and reinforced with glass fiber to confere the dome a blurry and shiny appearence. The inner dome with an open skylight on the top is designed to better respond to the local bioclimatic needs providing natural light and natural ventilation to the platforms. Exterior shaders 50cm deep protects the waiting rooms glazed surfaces from direct sun light contact.
