Our proposal aims to merge the Afghan vernacular architecture with a contemporary language, sensitive to a smart, sustainable and local way to build. This intervention on a site with its specific condition, requires an optimistic and positive approach, to characterize all the surrounding area with a balanced, pragmatic and integrated into the context representative building, enhancing the territory of Bamiyan Valley. The architectural ensemble is composed by a series of small-scale buildings with different orientations and views to enhance the comprehension of the surrounding archaeological spaces and territory. The hierarchical organization of the volumes and the material camouflage of the building integrate with the local environment, both natural and anthropic. In the Bamiyan province the bricks dome is the primarily roof system for these buildings, we choose to use a traditional angular pendentive, widespread both in Islamic and pre-Islamic eras, it allows us to create a morphing continue surface to connect a square basis (more functional for museum space) with a dome on top.
