Refurbishment of a protected building from the XIX century in the “ciutat vella” of Barcelona. More than 3000sqm of residential space divided in 18 small apartments from 35 to 50 sqm distributed on 5 levels, plus 3 commercial spaces of different sizes on the ground floor. The main intervention was the reinforce or substitution of all the wooden beams and wooden structures of the building including a new vertical cut from terrace to the underground to fit a lift to improve accesibility and brand new installations: electric, plumbing etc. The refurbishment was driven by a concept of zero waste, lot of wood form the structure that has to be removed was reused in other locations if possible, stones were from a local quarry and the sustainability was granted by the installation of a aerothermal system for heating and cooling both air and water for all the flats. The facade was restored following traditional methods like “Veladura” and the carpintery has typical colors of Barcelona old town.
